Technique Classes
All instrumentalists in District 204 are taught a dual curriculum – one which focuses on their ensemble skills, the other which focuses on the individual technique for each instrument. The instrumental ensembles contain many different instruments and it’s essential that we are able to address the students’ individual needs for each instrument separately. Technique classes provide the opportunity for students to learn their instrument through a district approved curriculum, supported by the understanding that this is the most effective way to reach needs for every student. This ensures that students are developing the skills necessary for successful music-making in high school and beyond!
Students in Wind Ensemble participate in small chamber groups and full symphony during the first half of their lunch, rather than technique classes. Wind Ensemble students are encouraged to take private lessons, and are expected to continue developing technique during home practice.
Technique class makes up 35% of the semester band grade. The classes occur as small group pullouts from band class and/or lunch options. Students may make up excused absences by scheduling a make-up time with his or her technique instructor.
