Jazz
Jazz is a unique American art form. Its heritage echoes the great social, political, and economic changes that shaped our country during the 20th century and beyond. The artistry, style, technical proficiency, and theoretical understanding that is necessary to perform jazz makes it worthy of our time to study. It is our sincere hope that the WVHS jazz program will provide students with the desire to be lifelong jazz enthusiasts, and the skill to be informed and critical jazz consumers.
The jazz program is designed to provide students with ample exposure to three different elements of jazz. Students will receive a comprehensive jazz education by studying these different areas:
1. History/Listening
2. Improvisation/Music Theory
3. Repertoire
