Curricular Choirs

Curricular choral music performance classes in District 204 are fully accredited and each yield one full unit of credit per course. Students demonstrate learning outcomes both in the classroom and in four curricular concerts.
Each of the choirs listed below performs in each of our quarterly curricular concerts. The concerts are scheduled to correspond with the conclusion of each of the four grading periods. Students may also be required to participate in other performances beyond the walls of WVHS, especially in the auditioned choirs. The following are expectations for ALL Waubonsie Valley curricular choral ensembles:
  • Attendance at concerts is required
  • Music is selected from many historical periods and styles.
  • All students will be challenged to improve their individual musicianship.
  • All students will be provided with the opportunity to experience musical excellence in both daily rehearsals and performances.

[email protected]

Seniors enrolled in Varsity Chamber  may be eligible to take this course for weighted credit with consent from the directors. In addition to meeting all the criteria for the standard course, senior students eligible for a weighted grade will create a performance and research portfolio which will include: four small ensemble performances with a comprehensive written critique, four evaluations of concert programs, and tangible evidence of leadership activities leading to substantial musical achievement. Students may prepare auditions related to college applications in lieu of the fourth small ensemble performance. Audition and instructor's permission required.

The Varsity Choirs are the most advanced, mixed choral ensembles open to students grades 10-12. Music reading abilities and the demonstration of advanced vocal proficiencies are a prerequisite for this ensemble. Emphases in the class are advanced choral techniques and independent singing skills. Students are expected to be self-motivated and leadership-oriented.  Students are placed in this ensemble by audition only. Varsity Choirs will meet in two different sections: Varsity Singers and Varsity Chamber (most advanced). These sections will rehearse and perform both separately and together at various concerts as determined by the directors. Combined rehearsals will take place during a specific lunch period.
