World Beat
Founded in 2009, the WVHS World Beat offers percussionists and interested non‐percussionists the opportunity to study and perform percussion music from around the world. World Beat may cover a variety of styles and genres from a wide range of cultures and countries. Students may have the opportunity to study music from Brazil, Cuba, Argentina, Polynesia, Indonesia, the Caribbean, West Africa, Central Africa, Japan, China, and folk music from Europe and the Americas.
World Beat meets once a week for an hour, and performs at the Schlagzeugfest Concert, Spring Percussion Concert, and sometimes the Fine Arts Festival. World Beat is directed by Chris Dandeles. Membership is open to anyone enrolled in a WV music course with a passion for world music who can commit to the rehearsal and performance schedule.
