Auditions have concluded for placement in the 22-23 orchestras. However, if you are new to WV, this will give you some of the info that we will use to place you into the correct orchestra
2022-2023 Orchestra Auditions for Waubonsie Valley
THIS PAGE HAS INFORMATION FOR ALL AUDITIONING STUDENTS
- Incoming Freshman (Class of 2026) for Concert Orchestra and Concert Strings placement
- Current students for Symphonic Strings audition
- Current students for Chamber Orchestra and Chamber Strings audition
At Waubonsie we have 2 freshman orchestras - CONCERT ORCHESTRA is the entry-level high school orchestra which is the natural extension of the 8th grade orchestra curriculum and CONCERT STRINGS which is a more advanced high school level for students who will likely advance into the auditioned-track orchestras as upperclassmen. Placement is determined by evaluation of students' skill in 3rd quarter 8th grade.
All 8th grade Waubonsie-bound students will prepare the following video material with their 8th grade teacher by January 28:
Violin: 2 octave D Major Scale
Viola/Cello/Bass: 2 octave G Major Scale
Everyone: In the Bleak Midwinter (or equivalent benchmark tune)
Optional: Prepared solo if students particularly want to be considered for Concert Strings
For registration purposes, all incoming 9th grade students should register for "Concert Orchestra". Ms Tyus and Ms Silberman will change placements with Waubonsie counselors later in March 2022 and students will be made aware of placements by their current 8th grade orchestra teachers. If students will be attending a different high school, the recommendation for placement is standardized across the district, so the new 9th grade teachers will have access to video files and data for placement.
